Description

Messier 78, also referred to as NGC 2068, is a reflection nebula in the constellation of Orion. With a magnitude of 8.0 it is the brightest reflection nebula in the night sky. The nebula is bluish and has an angular extent of 8' × 6'. The nebula was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1780 and also described by Charles Messier at the end of the year.
